FIRST EVENT We are planning to run the first event in Plymouth in early 2010. This will be the second regional event in the UK and is open to contestants from (but not limited to) Devon and Cornwall. The idea behind the event is to push the boundaries of live manipulation of self-composed electronic music. The first ever Laptop Battle UK event was held in Bristol in 2006 and has since become a well established event, attracting attention from the BBC and Computer Music magazine. For more info on Laptop Battle UK go tohttp://www.myspace.com/laptopbattleuk Laptop Battle events are currently being held in USA, Germany, Japan, New Zealand, Italy and with plans to launch Laptop Battle Australia, Bulgaria, Slovakia, Argentina and Ireland. Plans are being made to hold a MASSIVE Laptop Battle International event in the near future! The Battles are open to any kind of music the producers want to play. So long as it's a freestyle session there is no limit on what genres may be played... all are invited! Electronica / dubstep / breakbeat / jungle / breakcore / techno / drum'n'bass / broken beats / hip-hop … ANYTHING goes! WE NEED YOU!!! The winner of the first event in Plymouth will automatically be entered into the next UK Laptop Battle in Bristol, with a chance to represent the south west in the UK national event and even the UK in the international event in the future. Laptop Battle nights are always a lot of fun, with the crowd having a major impact on the development of the night. Crowd response to the producers will influence the judges so come down and cheer for your favourite producer and get involved. BATTLE RULES Tech Spec 1 x Laptop Computer 1 x External Soundcard (optional) 1 x MIDI controller device No limitation on software! Format Head-to-Head bouts... 1st Round: 2 x 2 mins each producer Semi-Final: 2 x 3 mins each producer The Final: 2 x 5 mins each producer Judging 3 judges decide the winner of each battle based on the following 3 criteria... * Live Manipulation * Composition * Crowd Response The judges decision is final! Lastly, Plymouth Laptop Battle is a not-for-profit event. Any proceeds will go towards prizes and funding future events. |
